About the Bobbin Thread
The bobbin thread is on the underneath portion of your embroidery
design/logo. The purpose of the bobbin thread is essentially to hold
the top threads taut.
The bobbin is a spool that is contained inside of the hook, which
serves to hold the bobbin thread. A bobbin on an embroidery machine
functions in the same capacity as the bobbin on a home sewing
machine. They both work for the same purpose and in the same manner.
Bobbin thread is not the same thing as embroidery thread. For one
thing, it is much finer than regular embroidery thread. It may be
purchased on large spools or even large cones, but you would need to
literally sit for hours winding bobbins. Therefore, since
embroidering takes a great deal of bobbin thread, you will need to
be prepared and have some thread ready so that you do not have to
stop in the middle of your project and wind some thread. The
solution to this inconvenience is to purchase some pre-wound bobbin
thread. They are polyester and marked size L.
Most projects call for white bobbin thread, however, for some
projects you will need black bobbin thread. If you are using black
thread on the bobbin, you may need to use the special needle that
contains a longer eye so that it will help to prevent the black
thread from fraying. This fraying is caused by the combination of
colors contained in the black thread, which may cause it to clump
and thereby separate when on the needle.
The bobbin thread is a vital part of your project since it serves to
keep the top threads taut and in place.
